Lions Clubs International traces its origins to a fortuitous meeting in 1917, when a Chicago businessman named Melvin Jones invited local business clubs to come together to improve their communities.
Instead of focusing solely on business interests, Jones proposed that these clubs should harness their collective resources and talents to address pressing social issues and serve the broader community. This vision laid the foundation for what would become Lions Clubs International.
